Hello Mitchell Families!  We are excited to introduce to you a new Parent Committee!
Many of you are familiar with the Playground Committee which ran the Spaghetti Dinner and Spring Fling the last two years.  With the money raised from those two events, the Playground Committee has been able to make some major and minor improvements to our upper playground and purchase two large pieces of equipment, a climbing tunnel and a teeter-totter made for multiple children.  Currently, those items are stored at Mitchell and will be installed by the district this spring along with other improvements.  This committee has enhanced our school community, and we thank all of you for your tremendous support enabling us to improve our children’s play area!

Now that the Playground Committee’s major goals have been completed, we have decided to continue on as a committee and begin to address some other areas of need within Mitchell that cannot be met by district or PTA funds.  We have changed our name from the Playground Committee to FACE.  FACE is an acronym for Families Advocating for their Children’s Education.  We have expanded our focus to other areas of need in the Mitchell community not usually covered by the school budget.  The FACE Committee’s goal in the next few weeks is to communicate with teachers and school committees to identify needs, set priorities and assess what funds are needed to address those needs.  We also welcome your ideas and suggestions.

In the future, the money earned through the Spaghetti Dinner and Spring Fling will be used to purchase supplies and equipment that the teachers and FACE feel is most needed.  All money earned through the FACE Committee fundraisers stay at Mitchell.  Mrs. Berka is the FACE Committee’s teacher advisor. Parent co-chairs are Cindy Koch and Jeanne Vorpagel.  We are looking to expand our committee and welcome any parents interested in joining and/or helping us in any way.  Currently, we meet during the day but could possibly meet in the evening if it would benefit interested parent participation. Feel free to contact Cindy at mkoch37@wi.rr.com or 543-5338 or Jeanne at jv19@sbcglobal.net or 545-6549 with any questions or comments.  We look forward to working with you as families of Mitchell Elementary and hope together we can become the FACE of Mitchell!

The new State Report Card also provides our school with multiple measures and data points that assess the performance of our students.  We are excited about the progress that we have made in the areas of student achievement, student growth, closing the gap, and on track and post secondary readiness.  You can read more about the new State Report Card on the state Department of Public Instruction’s website at http://dpi.wi.gov/oea/acct/accountability.html.

Welcome to Mitchell Elementary School!

Dear Students and Family Members:

I would like to welcome students and their families to General Mitchell Elementary for the 2012-2013 school year. I hope you will quickly feel like part of our Mitchell Family. Although our children come from many different cultures and backgrounds, we all share a common goal. That goal is to help our children develop to their fullest, academically, socially, and emotionally while providing them with the educational foundation and the burning desire to excel in their academics throughout their scholastic career. The staff at Mitchell is dedicated to working with the students and their families to accomplish this goal.

We need everyone’s help to achieve this objective. We invite families and community members to work with us by being involved in our school activities. We urge you to participate in parent/teacher conferences that will be held in November and February, our Opening Night in August, and many other activities scheduled for this year with the help of our fabulous PTA and Staff. Parents are challenged with volunteering an hour a day, a week, or a month. We have many opportunities in the classroom and at the school level. We are looking forward to the new school year with great faith in our staff, students, and families.

Sincerely,

Joseph Hill, Principal
